Up We Go!

Notice the sign is a double black diamond and says "Experts Only". It should read "Idiots Only". It's insane!

For once we got Manda to agree to ride the ski lift! It just had to be in July, with no ski's and I would say no snow but she made sure to point out that there was still snow in patches on the mountain much to her delight... NOT. Before we left for our Anniversary trip that we were kind enough to take our only two remaining children that have been home this summer with us, Manda said that she had never experienced such horrible weather for the 4th of July before. She quickly changed her mind after arriving at the condo. We were in the beautiful mountains not far from the Canadian border. Incredible beauty all around. Did she notice? Nope. The only thing she could focus on was the weather. After being there for only a few minutes she stated, " I was wrong, this is the worst weather I have ever experienced on the 4th of July." Gosh... a little rain, thunder, lightning, freezing cold... isn't that what the 4th is all about??? LOL. Crazy little Texan. Somebody needs to work on her attitude. ;)

Emma however, was in Heaven. She jumped right on the lift like she had been on it a million times. She loved the ride up but by the time we got to the top she was asking if she could just ride the lift back down and not hike because she was too cold. This shocked us because she is the drama hot flash queen of the world. She is always carrying on about how it is just too hot and she loves the cold weather- and that is since we moved to Idaho!!! It took a lot of convincing that she would enjoy the hike (now that we know she is capable of hiking) and that she didn't want to take the wimpy way down and ride the lift. We finally figured out the real issue was that the lift was the fast way down and she just wanted to get in the hot tub... Oh well, too bad, sometimes life in our family means taking the long way down.

The top of the mountain was breath taking. It is kind of shocking though to see a ski resort in the summer and realize all of the things that you are skiing on top of in the winter and have no idea that they are there. Huge rocks, trails, small trees, streams, waterfalls... you would never see them with snow on top of them. Even if it was the coldest 4th of July weekend we've ever experienced, it was beautiful. We were thankful that it quit raining long enough for us to get to the top of the mountain and most of the way down before more rain hit.

So the expert warnings is it just in winter or is it all year long? But I would totally agree with Manda. Too cold for the 4th if you have to wear a jacket in the summer time. Now Emma I would agree with too. Take the lift down too. :) so much easier. But the pictures are pretty. Looks like a fun time.
