Gotta Love A Girl With That Kind Of Drive...

I would say no pun intended... but I thought I was pretty clever coming up with that title! Manda will appreciate it if nobody else does. =) I would say she is in love with that truck, but it really goes further- more like obsessed. I thought she was going to have a stroke when a guy asked a few weeks ago if he could help her work on her truck. AS IF... could you imagine letting just anyone touch such a precious thing? It reminded me of the Taylor Swift song that says, "That stupid ole' pick-up truck you never let me drive". That song has nothing on Manda and her truck these days, she has only become more protective of it over the last few months. I hate to think about what it will be like as time goes by. I pity the fool who ever asks to drive it...

On a more serious note, there are some good things about her obsession. For instance, one day she said she was going to go work on her truck. I laughed and thought to myself, "Yeah, right". Next thing I know she was pulling in from the part store with new headlights, fuses and a few things like that. I looked out the window a little while later and saw that she had taken the old headlights out and was putting in new ones. I went outside with my camera in hand (of course) to document this moment in time and she had already switched out a few fuses, taken out one headlamp and was finishing installing the new one. She might not have been as quick at it as her Dad, but by golly, Miss Molly did it- before long she had two new headlights in, fuses replaced and was talking about cleaning out the carburetor. That girl always keeps me laughing and amazed at what she can accomplish when she puts her head to it.

We quickly learned why the fuse was missing that controls the horn... It was like an alarm system ahead of it's time for 1968! At first every time she would touch the steering wheel the horn would go off. She took it for a little drive and when it would hit bumps or rattle too much, the horn would go off. The fuse quickly came back out, but she said it will go back in when she moves into her apartment so she will know if anyone is standing too close to her baby!

By the end of the afternoon when I went out to check on her again, she announced that she had come up with a new plan for her life and was going to be a mechanic. We both laughed. She said she made a very important discovery that day. I asked what that was, and she said, "I now know why mechanics don't own cats". I was puzzled and said in my best Mom voice, "Huh?". She was down low in front of the truck and told me to come take a look at her. So I did, and my first thought was, "Where is my camera when I need it?". Her cat kept jumping on her back as she was working on her truck. She would knock it off of her and the silly thing would just jump right back on her back as if it were the most normal thing in the world. I don't know what was funnier, the thought of Manda being a mechanic or seeing her cat perched on her back while working on the truck. What a strange life we live!

that's funny! I am impressed about her car know-how...honestly the only thing I do with my car is vaccuum it...I was just telling Di yesterday, I let Alan take care of the detailing (cleaning the dash etc). I must say that now when I see an old truck even similar to Mandy's--it reminds me of her! :) I hope Makaya will grow up and be like your girls! :)
