I recently tried out a farm co-op called Bountiful Baskets that a friend told me about. You put in an order online during the week and then on Saturday mornings you go to a location and pick up your basket of fresh fruits and veggies. Every week it is a surprise as far as what will be in the basket, all you know is it will be 50% fruit and 50% veggies. Last week was my first week and I wasn't nearly as impressed as this week. The veggies were really small last week but after showing a few friends they thought I still got a really good deal. There was also quite a bit of bok-choy in the basket last week which isn't something that I would normally buy. However, it did force me to look up some new recipes and found a great one that inspired my back yard wok garden dinner. So it was a win/win situation. I had a great dinner w/ some friends celebrating their 30th anniversary and found a great new recipe while saving money on produce.
I will include a picture of this week's basket. There were a ton of bananas, some apples, lots of peaches, two small heads of broccoli, tomatoes, avocados, 3 large heads of red tip lettuce, cantaloupe, two containers of blackberries and a small bag of baby carrots. You pay $15 and get what you get. I think we will be eating a ton of salad this week, but lucky for me, I found some amazing looking recipes for fun summer salads in a couple of magazines. I am excited to cook this week (if you can call making salad cooking)!!
