For years Rick and I have been talking about taking a romantic trip on some water, in a boat, just the two of us with no kids. Well, this is the year!! Only, did I mention it wasn't the boat that I had exactly planned on? Inflatable. And not the water that I was dreaming of? White water. Plenty of food, even all you can eat- cooked over a campfire container. Luxury and plenty of amenities- tent, air mattress, swim hole (in the form of a freezing cold river) and also including a poop bucket since there is a strict "pack-it out with you" rule on the river. As if that isn't enough to get you SO excited at the thought of this romantic vacation, add to that the stress of my vanity and no showering for a week! What is a woman to do with her hair? I was informed hair-spray was a "no-go". It came down to one simple answer- a hat. No worrying about formal attire. Thanks to our good friends, there were plenty of wet suits to go around and dry suits too! If you haven't experienced the pleasure of wearing one and the neck squeeze that goes with it, it is a must! Keep in mind while your neck is in a choke hold that I am also the person who doesn't even wear necklaces because I am phobic about things being around my neck.
You can't imagine the amount of sleep that I lost worrying about what to do with my hair. I ended up taking pictures and sending it to my daughters to vote on which hat best captured my radiant beauty. =) I also tried on a number of different wet suits hoping to find one that didn't hug my neck too much. I found one that I could deal with and one that I panicked and had to get off as soon as I snapped the picture. It isn't hard to figure out which one it is, you'll notice my eyes bulging out of my head in the picture from the tight grip on my neck. We couldn't resist when we found the perfect touch for Rick's outfit as well. Who can keep from going "batty" over a man like that?
While I greatly appreciate the kindness and energy of our young friends who tolerate us (okay...me, they love Rick- it is a dream come true for him!) on such adventures, I can't help but wonder how I get myself into these situations? I must be the entertainment. I'm sure I provide hours of laughter at the thought of getting me to do things like this. This isn't exactly the cruise I have been dreaming of, it will be the trip of a lifetime- hopefully not the end of a life though!
PS
The pics are making me crazy... I can't get them to go the right direction. I guess you get the idea! =P
